It is used for chemical, biological and radioactive agents. It is closely related to the GP-9.

The PPM-88 is a Russian industrial respirator that uses a standard 40mm filter to protect its user from Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear (CBRN) threats.

This gas mask was made famous by the game Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light as it is the mask used by the player throughout the game and is commonly found throughout the game world.

A yellow variant of the mask can be found.

Use[]

The PPM-88 and the PPM series is used as most gas masks usually are, for protection against airborne elements. But more specifically, the PPM series was made to protect against radiation in particular; offering this at nearly the same level as the PMK.

The PPM series is used in industry and by firefighters. They are not usually used by the military, as the PMK-3 is standard.

History[]

Like a lot of Russian masks, very little information about the PPM-88 is available through online channels. Please feel free to add anything you know on this subject.

Manufacturer/Distributor[]

PPM-88 in different variations is made by three manufacturers:

  1. "Arti-zavod", which is part of "Zelinsky group",
  2. "Briz-Kama Factory", which is part of "Trade House Briz",
  3. "Yarti".

Arti-zavod manufactures the front part of this gasmask using two names: "MPG-IZOD" and "PPM-88". The product "MPG-IZOD" differs from the standard arrangement "PPM-88" presence of the second intercom and yellow inserts.

Briz-Kama Factory manufactures the face part of this gasmask using two names: "Briz-4301" and "Briz-4301M". The version with the name Briz-4301M differs in the absence of a plastic attachment on the visor. Thus the visor is non-replaceable and is fixed directly into the rubber. This face part is produced in black, yellow and turquoise. The mask has only a universal size.

Yarti manufactures the face part of this gas mask under the name "PM-88[1]".
